Morse Code in Geocaching

During geocaching, you may encounter Morse code, for example, in puzzles that need to be solved. To be well-prepared for such a situation, it’s wise to print out a Morse code alphabet in advance or have a Morse code converter ready on your phone.

With both tools, you can relatively easily translate Morse code into the familiar Latin alphabet.

What is Morse Code?

There are various methods of communication, and Morse code is one example. In Morse code, two signals are used: a short signal and a long signal.

The short signal is represented by a dot, while the long signal is represented by a dash. Together, these signals form a translation of the letters from our alphabet.

For example, the letter “A” consists of a combination of a short and a long signal, while “I” is represented by two short signals.

Each letter and number has a unique Morse code. You place the translations of these letters in sequence to form a word.
